Microcement Bathroom - Newport Beach
A continuous microcement finish across the walls and ceiling turned a compact Newport Beach shower bathroom into a lighter, more unified space.

What the room needed
The compact shower bathroom was originally finished in dark ceramic tile, which gave the room a visually heavy feel and made water streaks, mineral marks, and everyday surface residue stand out against the dark background. The goal was a calmer, lighter interior with fewer visual breaks - a finish that could connect the shower, the surrounding walls, and the ceiling without adding more divisions to an already small space.
The finish, and why it fit
Microcement was chosen for its seamless surface and restrained mineral character. Unlike tile, it introduces no repeating grid of grout lines, so the room reads as one continuous architectural composition, while its fine hand-troweled variation adds subtle movement. The warm bone and light greige tone also gives a quieter background for the brushed brass fixtures, the floating walnut vanity, and the richly veined natural stone.
What we solved
The main challenge was carrying a single continuous finish across both the wet and dry zones, including the walls and ceiling, in a compact bathroom. The surfaces were carefully masked and prepared, then built up in successive microcement coats to establish an even, unified surface with fine troweled movement. A water-repellent protective layer and a final finish coat were applied so the microcement could sit comfortably in a working shower environment.
The result
The completed microcement surface gives the bathroom a lighter, more cohesive character. Walls and ceiling now form a continuous warm mineral envelope around the shower, and the subtle surface variation adds depth without competing with the natural stone, the walnut cabinetry, or the brass fixtures. The result is a compact bathroom that feels calmer, more deliberate, and visually connected.
