What the room needed
The homeowners wanted to move beyond a conventional painted accent wall and give the living room a more refined focal point. Because the wall brings together the television, recessed shelving, and integrated media cabinetry, the new surface needed to add material character without competing with the calm, neutral interior.
The finish, and why it fit
A matte Marmorino Venetian plaster was chosen for its mineral character and restrained trowel movement. Unlike a flat painted surface, it develops depth through softly varied hand-applied layers while staying quiet enough to support the surrounding architecture. Its warm taupe tone connects the dark media cabinetry, the warm wood flooring, and the layered neutral furnishings, so the wall reads as part of the room rather than a separate decorative effect. Marmorino sits at the matte end of the Venetian plaster family, defined by subtle cloud and trowel movement, mineral depth, and a warm neutral palette.
What we solved
SBK finish specialists prepared the existing painted wall, then built up the Marmorino in successive hand-applied coats, finishing with careful detailing across the architectural transitions and a breathable protective sealer. The main consideration was holding a continuous visual relationship between the main wall, the recessed shelving, the television area, and the cabinetry, so the finish could introduce movement and depth without making the media wall feel visually heavy.
The result
The completed wall gives the living room a quieter, more architectural focal point. The Marmorino replaces the flat painted surface with soft matte depth and restrained trowel movement that responds gently to natural light. Its warm taupe tone frames the television and recessed shelving without overpowering the room, while connecting naturally with the dark cabinetry, the warm wood flooring, and the layered neutral furnishings. The result is a more cohesive media wall with subtle material character and a calm, refined presence.
